Í viku 20 þar til meðhöndlun lýkur mun Arctic Fish í samráði við Matvælastofnun meðhöndla með efninu Salmosan vet (Azamethiphos) á eldisvæðinu Kvígindisdalur

Lyfjameðhöndlun verður með efninu Salmosan® (Azamethiphos). Efnið er vel þekkt og er góð reynsla á því í fiskeldi erlendis. Lyfjastofnun Íslands gerir kröfu á 15 daggráður (dagur x °C) í biðtíma fyrir slátrun. Salmosan er baðlausn og því eru áhrif efnisins á eldisdýr hverfandi og ekki eru þekkt neikvæð heilbrigðis áhrif af efninu á lokavöru.

Við meðhöndlun er fyllsta varkárni gætt til að lágmarka áhrif á lífríki í nágrenni eldiskvía. Þar sem virka efnið í Salmosan getur haft tímabundin áhrif á önnur krabbadýr í nærumhverfinu, er vinnsluferlum hagað þannig að tryggja megi hraða blöndun og útþynningu efnisins í sjónum.

Kvíastæðin verða merkt með gulu flaggi meðan á meðhöndlunartíma stendur.

Fiskisjúkdómanefnd hefur heimilað umbeðna lyfjameðhöndlun. Allar umsóknir um notkun lyfja gegn Laxa-og fiskilús má finna undir fundargerðir Fisksjúkdómanefndar á heimasíðu Matvælastofnunar (https://www.mast.is/is/um-mast/nefndir-og-rad/fisksjukdomanefnd).

In week 20 and until treatment is completed, Arctic Fish, in consultation with the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority (MAST), will administer a treatment using Salmosan vet (Azamethiphos) at the Kvigindisdalur farming site.

The medicinal treatment will consist of Salmosan® (Azamethiphos). The substance is well-known, with extensive positive experience in international aquaculture. The Icelandic Medicines Agency requires a withdrawal period of 15 degree-days (days x °C) before slaughter. Salmosan is a bath treatment; therefore, its effects on the farmed animals are negligible, and there are no known negative health impacts from the substance on the final product.

During treatment, utmost care is taken to minimize the impact on the ecosystem in the vicinity of the pens. As the active ingredient in Salmosan can have temporary effects on other crustaceans in the immediate environment, operational procedures are designed to ensure rapid mixing and dilution of the substance in the sea.

The pen sites will be marked with a yellow flag during the treatment period.
